Learning with Sesame Street

What is more fun than learning with your favorite characters from Sesame Street! On this website you will discover lots of different interactive games and activities that can help you learn while at home with your family during our school closure. Sesame Street online provides family of children ages 2-5 with learning opportunities and fun activities that will help build upon the skills that they already have while integrating authentic learning. At the bottom of every game, they include a description of a way that families can play together and further their learning. A great example of developmentally appropriate practices on this website is a video from the count. It is clear that the makers of Sesame Street understand child development and creates materials that are age appropriate. In the video that features the famous "Count Von Count" is a video that discusses the census that is currently taking place and how important it is for all your family and all families in your neighborhoods to be counted during this time. They take into account the individual learners by showing the number, saying the number and counting to that number. Sesame Street is culturally appropriate with their materials makes a point of recognizing different families and counting each family member in the video. They explain how doing so will help give funding for your neighborhoods and schools. This helps children understand what the census is and why families are talking about it together. This video gives children an opportunity to experience authentic learning through watching a video that includes counting, number recognition, encouragement of kinesthetic movements and fun, friendly characters. After watching the video, parents and caregivers can use this opportunity to discuss the census with their child and encourage them to ask anything they may have questions on.

In the second link I have provided for Sesame Street online, it provides children and parents with an opportunity for authentic learning by providing a real world topic of tooth brushing, a chart to help them track their brushing and a video from Elmo that they can watch when brushing that gives a positive view on tooth brushing.
Sesamestreet.org provides an opportunity to assess your child's development and learning while having fun! Navigating this website will provide children with school readiness goals that are beneficial for a lifetime of learning!

Noggin

Ready to get up on your feet and moving? Noggin features a ton of games to get your brain and your body moving while at home! My favorite game is "Ready, Set, Race". This game focuses on kinesthetic/ whole body learning and gets you exercising your brain and body! You get the opportunity to use your entire body to try to solve puzzles with some of your favorite friends from Paw Patrol! " Ready, Set, Race" meets Early Learning Framework Outcomes (ELOF) such as Perceptual, Motor and Physical Development 1: child demonstrates control, strength and coordination of large muscles as well as Mathematic Knowledge and Skills C1: Child shows understanding of and uses several position words. Noggin is a great way to have fun while learning important skills necessary for Kindergarten preparation.

Authentic Learning: Within this website, there are opportunities for children to choose the game in which interests them the most. Noggin features familiar characters from show such as paw patrol that instantly attracts preschool children to the content. While providing the children with fun and engaging characters, they are able to navigate through different platforms and categories of games independently. Throughout this experience, children are introduced to content both visually and through audio which will reinforce their early literacy skills.

Developmentally Appropriate Practice: With the inclusion of some familiar and favorite characters of popular shows, children have the ability to navigate through games that challenge and encourage their previous skills and learning. Noggin is great about providing content that is culturally respectful and easy for families to navigate together to decide the cultural appropriateness of the games and interactions.
