Storyline Online

Are you missing story at circle time? With the libraries and schools being closed I would like to share a resource with you that gives your family access to endless stories. Storyline Online is a free resource that includes tons of books that are recorded and read aloud. Read alouds on your tablet, phone or computer is a great, educational way to spend your daily screen time! Storyline online showcases tons of children's picture books that are familiar and enticing and give an opportunity for authentic learning! Children have the opportunity for authentic learning through the choice of book, discussion pages and interactions throughout the read aloud. This is a great resource that allows children to listen and look at books that they may not have at home or have access to at this time. At the bottom of each video, there is an option to select the teacher's guide. This allows families to have access to questions that go along with the story, activities and even some goals and standards that align with the story.

Families can assess their children's learning through the attached teachers guide at the bottom of the read aloud and have an opportunity to choose titles that are culturally appropriate for their family and developmentally/age appropriate for their child.

One of my favorite books is I A Bad Case of the Stripes by David Shannon. This book gives a developmentally appropriate practice by teaching children to enhance development and learning. This is done by the main character, Camilla. Camilla loves lima beans but her friends hate them. Camilla is scared of what everyone thinks of her and she breaks out in stripes of all colors! At the end, Camilla realizes I love this story because it teaches children that it's important to be yourself and be proud, a skill that is often taught at a young age.
